In Vonald City of Churches by Donald Barthelme we have the theme of acceptance, conformity, reliance, religion, paralysis and independence. I thought the fact that the city was made up of churches was to substitute the communist idea of the Soviet Union.

By the cheer tone of the story it is clear that Prester is a very strange town. I actually liked it.
